What Colour Is Water, 2018
I spent a month in Blonduos completing an artist residency at the Icelandic Textiles Centre in May 2018. I had ambitions to develop my natural dyeing skills using indigenous plants, however, the ‘Beast from the East’ that year meant that spring had not yet sprung in Northern Iceland by May. Instead I spent my time in the residency learning from my fellow artists about processing fleeces, knitting and natural dyeing using extracts. I also spent a lot of time cloud gazing, sea gazing (possibly navel gazing also). I wanted to the soft variances in colour that I was witnessing under the eternally bright summer skies through unspun wool and natural dyes, and so I teased out these fluffy clouds.
